The Subdivision and Development Coordination section combines transportation planning, engineering and land use principles to ensure that infrastructure in new developments meet requirements and all appropriate design and construction standards. Transportation Planning and Engineering play a key role in shaping our urban neighbourhoods and are the primary determinant of our city’s environmental, financial and social sustainability. Subdivision and Development Coordination is looking for an engineering co-op student who is motivated by a challenging and fast-paced work environment and enjoys working in a highly diverse team. As part of the Subdivision Planning unit, the student will experience the development review process from Subdivision Application to Development Permit Application. The Subdivision Planning unit primarily reviews proposed subdivisions and development permits from a land use and transportation perspective. This role provides a linkage in the development process across several areas and contributes to the successful development of our City.

With a focus on the to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:
Assist with the review of subdivision land development applications and development permit applications for transportation-related conditions and advisements from a transportation and land use perspective
Review applications in a holistic way that balances the interests of the City with the needs and desires of the customer
Provide support in the negotiation of infrastructure requirements with multiple stakeholders
Seek input from other business areas impacted by transportation decisions and attend internal and external meetings to provide information and seek solutions to transportation-related issues
Assist senior staff in reviewing transportation engineering drawings, access requests and preliminary plans
Work with senior staff to provide excellent customer service to the general public, other departments and the development industry on application-related activities and address public inquiries
Complete administrative duties associated with developing and updating guidelines and manuals, project and contract management, and design review
Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a civil or environmental engineering co-op or equivalent post-secondary work experience degree program
Demonstrated ability using Google Workspace applications
Familiarity with reading engineering drawings with transportation and landscape design
Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to maintain strong working relationships
Experience in delivering excellent customer service
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with multiple elements, with attention to detail
Ability to work independently and make decisions in the absence of a supervisor
Ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams to resolve issues with competing interests
Excellent organizational and multitasking skills

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
Salary Range: $26.325 – $30.710 (Hourly)
