The Planning Coordination Section is a multidisciplinary team of engineers, planners, technologists, and other professionals who collaborate on the review of urban development and planning projects in Edmonton. The Planning Coordination Section is looking for an engineering co-op student to assist with the review of land development applications. The successful individual will apply engineering and planning knowledge to review and assess drainage infrastructure requirements that arise as a result of a private development application. The successful individual will also collaborate with other members of the multidisciplinary team, to provide comprehensive and holistic feedback from the City and to improve understanding of broader considerations required in the urban planning process.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Apply knowledge of civil engineering, including hydraulics, hydrology, stormwater management practices, engineering design and construction standards, when reviewing urban development and planning projects
  • Provide support in the collaboration and determination of drainage infrastructure requirements associated with urban development
  • Review and respond to private land development applications, ensuring compliance with higher level City plans, policies and objectives.
  • Assist with the review of Neighbourhood Design Reports, Drainage Servicing Reports, and other drainage-related studies
  • Participate and contribute to public engagement activities and team meetings
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team while providing service to a range of development stakeholders
  • Respond to inquiries from the general public, other departments, and the development industry with complete and professional information
  • Collect and compile data related to land development and assist with the analysis of the gathered information

Note: This position may be a combination of working from home and on-site working conditions.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a civil or environmental engineering co-op, or equivalent post secondary work experience degree program
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to maintain strong working relationships
  • Ability to use Google Workspace applications
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with multiple elements, with attention to detail

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary: $26.325 – $30.710 (Hourly)
