UHN Data & Analytics supports UHN in data-driven decisions, data literacy, performance improvement, data governance, data infrastructure/tools, advanced analytics, and automation. The Performance Improvement & Excellence (PIE) team works under the direction of the Chief Data & Analytics Officer and in tight partnership with clinical & administrative leadership, to lead and manage performance improvement and transformation initiatives, using data, to accomplish measurable outcomes.

The Myrna Daniels Seniors Emergency Medicine Centre aims to be a world leader in every domain of seniors emergency care through building an innovative physical space, designing a transformative model of clinical care, seamlessly integrating with community partners, and producing leading-edge research and education. Seniors are the fastest growing demographic in Canada and require increasingly complex interventions resulting in an urgent need to develop, test and disseminate novel and sustainable approaches that can better meet the needs of an ageing population. The Centre is the first of its kind in Canada and aims to address these challenges through generating and translating new knowledge in the field of seniors emergency medicine regionally and internationally.

Position Summary:

The Analytics Lead applies advanced knowledge and skills to provide analytical and research support towards this goal through the collection of data that inform program priorities and evaluate program outcomes.

Cross-appointed between UHN’s Data Analytics and Seniors Emergency Medicine Centre programs, the Analytics Lead will play a critical role in shaping the initiatives that seek to improve the emergency care of frail older adults through applying advanced analytical and research expertise. The Analytics Lead will work closely with the design, clinical, quality, improvement, evaluation and research experts to produce data-driven insights that can inform strategic decisions and evaluate outcomes at the patient, organizational and system-level.

Duties:

  • Design data collection processes, collect and analyze data, lead data reporting and data visualization activities
  • Work closely with program team to conduct surveillance and reporting activities in line with clinical, programmatic and strategic priorities
  • Execute computer programs for data extraction, data set creation and analysis using spreadsheets and statistical software packages (e.g., Excel, Stata). Problem solve or troubleshoot when syntax or software is not performing
  • Contribute to analysis of population health data related to ageing and health care utilization trends
  • Plan, implement and coordinate all aspects of data collection
  • Identify appropriate analytics solutions through stakeholder engagement, literature review and requirements gathering
  • Translate complex, technical information to written reports and summaries for various audiences
  • Engage relevant clinical, business and leadership teams to understand problems and current state and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Develop and implement analytics solutions through predictive analytics, modeling, simulation, dashboards and reports
  • Visualize complex organizational data to tell a story, derive data-driven insights and demonstrate value
  • Evaluate analytics solutions implemented to ensure sustainable value and improvement
  • Assists in interpretation of results and preparation of material for presentation, publication, and/or grants
  • Representing Data & Analytics and the Seniors Emergency Medicine Centre in a professional manner with clinical, education and research teams
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external partners who frequently use and/or provide health data and work collaboratively with all areas of UHN and Data & Analytics
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • An Undergraduate Degree in Health Informatics, Public Health or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a healthcare environment supporting analytics, dashboards, simulation, and reporting or equivalent;
  • Minimum 2 year of related experience in project management
  • Experience designing and developing dashboards, routine and ad-hoc reports from multiple datasets
  • Ability to incorporate subject matter expertise, published literature, and evidence to develop innovative analytics solutions that meet program requirements
  • Experience working on multiple projects from initiation to close-out, including scoping, planning, implementation, issue/risk management and benefits realization
  • Hands on experience with the CIHI datasets, Discharge Abstract Database (DAD), National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS), Continuing Care Reporting System (CCRS), National Rehabilitation Reporting System (NRS), or other large data sets (e.g. Wait Times)
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of equity, anti-racism, and anti-oppression principles and practices
  • Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Visio, Project, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and SharePoint)
  • Demonstrated well-formed organizational, time management, communication, decision making and facilitation skills
  • Flexibility working in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to systematically analyze situations/issues, identify options, draw logical conclusions and determine/recommend practical courses of action
  • Excellent data analysis skills to identify patterns, visualize findings and communicate insights
  • Able to work with minimal supervision on moderately complex tasks
  • Able to work with multidisciplinary teams in a positive and productive manner
  • Able to effectively deal with high priority unscheduled tasks and problems
  • Experience developing presentations and presenting to various stakeholder groups including senior management
  • Experience in business writing skills and documentation
  • Knowledge and experience of the data & analytics and PMI project management lifecycles
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Experience working in research and familiarity with the EPIC Health Information System
  • Knowledge of the Ontario health care system and public health and strong foundation in the social determinants of health, population health and health policy
  • Proficiency in R, Python, SQL, MS Azure, MS Power BI and simulation software (e.g. Simul8);
