قسمتي از متن فيلم: Everybody who joined this is our second event virtual event as a group a LinkedIn group Central Asia geospatial community group our first event was in January and our second event is today now we’re going to have a panel of speakers today and we will be talking about GIS and remote sensing career development
So if you have any questions about what we say today about the slides feel free to write your questions in the chat and we will answer those we’ll try to answer those at the end I will have a quick introduction and I’ll give time to each speaker and they’ll have their presentations and
Then the second half we will have question and answer session that we will try to answer your questions so please join actively and let us know if you have any questions I know it’s just one hour not enough to cover everything but we’ll touch base with some topics that I think might interest
You and then um if there are other things that we should follow up uh we will follow up with you and let me start sharing uh about our community we have a LinkedIn community and then share my screen quickly and we started the LinkedIn group called Central Asia geospicial community
A while ago about a year ago and it’s almost 500 people members we have 500 members almost 500 there and our admins as you see on the screen we have nine admins group managers from different countries from different professions different uh perspectives including people from uh industry from Academia from government and from
Private sector so we have nine LinkedIn group admins and we’re adding more as needed and and in today’s panel description we have four speakers I’ll be moderating the the panel discussion and my name is minutes I’m a senior Global account manager at esri GIS company in the aec architecture engineering construction
And environmental team in Texas USA and our panelists Joseph kersky Dr kersky he’s the author of multiple books instructors geographer education manager at esri in the U.S there are other speakers GIS trainer University lecturer at azer Cosmos in Azerbaijan and najima limbeckova is a GIS specialist University lecturer at
Korea’s State University in Kurdistan and our last speaker is Manser Rusev GIS technology lead at tenges chair Royal in in Kazakhstan we wanted to have different perspectives from academic perspective and Private Industry and Technology perspective so we have a good group of speakers today and if you have
Any questions please write in the chat we’ll monitor the chat and try to answer them at the end in the second second part of the the panel discussion all right so I’ll turn it over to Joseph yeah please go ahead well greetings all Salem Bongiorno merhaba good day Joseph
Kursky here with you from Colorado USA beautiful morning here in Colorado and I send you my greetings I salute you also folks because your journey with geospatial technology is I think doubly important first of all it’s important for your own pathway having geospatial technology on your
Tool belt is going to help you be successful and contribute to an organization in the environment Transportation utilities Health business Etc it’s also going to help the planet geospatial technology is a key tool to helping our world become more sustainable and resilient so I salute you for two main reasons
Also geospatial technology is not going away right we’re always going to be grappling with all of the major issues of our 21st century world right natural hazards population change habitat loss climate Etc we’re never going to get to the point as a global Society where all those problems are solved hence
Geospatial technology is always going to be important and again I salute you for whatever point on the journey that you’re in so effectively using GIS in your career pathway is my my points for the next few moments I have a a survey in the chat box if you’d like to fill
That out feel free it’s going to illustrate what I call Modern GIS web-based GIS where the components interlock so if you fill out that survey which is in survey one two three one of the arcgis tools from the organization that Mehmet and I uh represent essary
It feeds into a feature service and that feeds into a dashboard that I have so I’ll show that dashboard at the very end after you’ve filled out that survey it’s got five simple questions on it now the above activity again represents four items in the web GIS platform a
Survey a dashboard and a story map that links them all together now why is GIS important besides the reasons I mentioned earlier it crosses boundaries it’s multi-disciplinary also it’s local to global scale and everything in between it also Fosters this tool right here it’s great that you folks on the
Webinar today know how to buffer and how to geocode addresses and how to geo-register imagery and so on those are all important tools but the most important tool is this tool right here your brain your spatially thinking critically thinking brain and that’s what I love about GIS my own area of GIS
Is teaching and learning and so I’m very happy to be with you all today and I think that GIS is a key tool to help this tool right here also it’s high demand in the workforce and it’s essential as I mentioned earlier I would just like to mention five forces
That I think are important as we navigate our pathway forward first of all people are aware so that Geo awareness hexagon they’re aware of of these issues that I mentioned earlier climate habitat weather natural hazards Etc it’s population change ocean health they’re aware of these issues as never
Before so that’s a great opportunity for us as the geospatial community to show leadership and show others why these issues actually matter to our planet also people are enabled to at least use some of the tools that you and I use day to day on the job they’re enabled to use
Map based tools to navigate across their campus or to their grandmother’s house or or whatever so they’re using some of these tools they have a fitness app how many of you have a fitness app you’re recording your walks your runs your cycle rides Etc okay so that’s enabled
By geotechnology how many of you have a package delivered to your home how many of you have used Uber or Lyft right all those all those services use geospatial technology and the center box there geotechnologies having having advented or migrated or evolved into this cloud-based environment is a huge leap
Forward it allows us to share data share methods share results through story Maps dashboards infographics Etc fourth citizen science or Community science where Ordinary People are gathering data on birds water quality weather Etc and and mapping and analyzing that data is a huge leap forward for geospatial and finally
Storytelling storytelling with maps this whole presentation of mine is a story map and I’m going to actually put it in the chat box here at the end of the session today okay so that you can see I’ll put it in there right now so you can actually follow along with what I’m
Saying so my whole presentation is a story map it’s a multimedia web map with audio video Etc now my own background we’re not going to bore you to tears Mehmet very kindly said what my a little bit my role here is at esri is on the Education team supporting schools universities colleges
Museums and libraries I’ve had a background in federal agencies science and mapping agencies and also a non-profit organizations and I also teach at several universities so I’ve got set I’ve got toes in four different sectors of society and what I’m wondering is if you think about this I’m not going to
Bore you with all my background but think about okay Joseph had multiple sectors in his career I’m hoping that encourages you to say two things a GIS is going to be valuable no matter what organization I go into and the second thing I hope it encourages you to do is
Think about I can change my organization I’m not stuck in one Organization for the entire rest of my career because geospatial is so valuable now no surprise to many of you that that know me but I used to make maps as a as a kid this is one of the made-up Maps I
Made as a teenager so my my interest in mapping and places goes way back to my childhood and I still love Maps here I am laying on a big map here yeah josephic I don’t know if you can zoom in the page to make it bigger sure sure
I also want you to think about that GIS is behind all science it’s behind all science climate science habitat science land cover analysis Etc GIS is fundamental to all scientific decisions in our society the other thing I want you to think about here in the last few moments that
I have with you all I’ve got some practical um advice first of all I love this diagram try to be at the center of this ikigai diagram from the Japanese what you love to do what you’re good at what you could be paid for and what the world
Needs try to be at the center of that now am I at the center of that every day at the on the job no but I try to be at the center of that diagram every day so that’s I think a useful one to think about as you go forward
Another practical thing is make a story map of your CV or resume so here’s Amanda Huber’s story map she has a background in coding programming and here’s some of her work okay here’s my own story map uh of my CV what I’m passionate about what I care about Etc
So some places I’ve I’ve taught Etc and I also have a essay that talks about how to do this and why to do this and some additional examples so I would highly encourage you to make a portfolio including a story map of your own CV now GIS is evolving it is rapidly
Changing how and that’s what my fine colleagues on this webinar will talk about today how can you navigate forward effectively and efficiently how can you be a lifelong Learner in geospatial technology but these are some of the trends that are happening in geospatial technology and some of the ones that I think are
Most important are for example these right here and that is the stool of what I call geoliteracy okay focus your thesis advisors probably tell you the same thing narrow your your topic Focus your topic but don’t lose the holistic perspective that we so desperately need to make wise decisions
That the atmosphere is connected to the hydrosphere is connected to the lithosphere is connected to the anthroposphere the human sphere Etc that they’re all connected so if we alter the variables over here it’s going to affect the variables over here so don’t lose that holistic perspective which I think
What geospatial technology and the geographic perspective actually give you so content knowledge is important know about soils or climate or population or land cover Etc but don’t lose the holistic perspective and develop skills not just geotechy skills but skills on communicating on asking questions Etc and the geographic perspective again
That holds the other two into this stool uh what I call geoliteracy time doesn’t permit me to go through all the resources I have here but I have this slide to show here in my closing moments what is this this is a computer I took this in a classroom where I was
Running a Geotech Club in a secondary school and it’s a doorstop now but at some point in the past it was someone’s valued part of their computer architecture the point I’m making with this slide is that understand these tools but don’t get too attached to them the tools change again
This tool is the most important okay the five most important skills as I close here ask questions ask questions that your professor is not even asking you to ask and when you’re in the workplace ask questions that your employer your supervisor is not even asking you to ask
Those are the kind of valued employees that we have here at esri and that other organizations want too so ask good and deep questions second be willing to work with data now I have a data blog that came out of a book that a colleague and
I wrote called the gis guide to public domain data and every week we post something about where to find data how to know if it’s any good and societal and ethical issues like copyright location privacy and geoethics so that’s a that’s the second skill be able to work with data understand your
Geoscience foundations know about map projections and geodesy know how to code no geodatabases Etc now you might say well Joseph I can’t learn at all and that’s true and that’s why we have this community so one of the other pieces of advice in here I say Network be an adaptable lifelong learner so
Learn through the esri moocs and other resources that I know my colleagues will talk about here today through esri press the esri academy and other places and finally nurture your communication skills now I have 6 000 videos on my R Earth Channel and some of those are me
And actual elevators giving my elevator speech make feel free to use those videos but make it your own voice practice your 30 second why I’m doing what I’m doing and why it matters speech practice your one minute speech your five-minute speech your hour-long Workshop because you never know when
You’re going to be asked to to hey we’re down the hall meeting and we need you to talk about why we need to fund your position for the next year you need to have that ready to go and be articulate about it and folks finally we have skilled energetic people in the
Geospatial community you all we have Rich and varied data we can solve these perplexing complex problems in our 21st century world I’m confident that we can do it and as a Geo scientist a geotechnology person you have a critical role in shaping the future so
Again I salute you and I’m glad to be a part of this community and again I’m going to show that uh dashboard now and I’m going to refresh the page because I if some of you filled out the the survey that I had we should
See a few more dots on the on the web map and we do okay great and so this is a dashboard reflecting the survey that I showed it’s it’s an illustration for the modern web-based GIS getting data in real time so thanks for being with me I
Appreciate it and I look forward to chatting you with the in the questions and answers over to you Mehmet thank you Joseph it was great to see all those uh new tools and Technologies and your insights so now let’s turn it over to Sona for her perspectives of what she did and
What she recommends for the audience here we go all right uh thank you thank you thank you for introducing me and so exciting speech from Joseph thank you so much for this talk and I am Sona go live from Baku Azerbaijan a girl who is passionate about girl special technology and in my
Speech I will talk about my experience and my journey in the girl special field as you can see from title I have selected this title as based on our uh interview from with Joseph kerskas who said uh your special life open new horizontal I am very happy to be here and speech
With you and uh along with exp expert in the field uh girl special help I have no long carrier that Journey about five over five years and I should say that I have started my career in oil and Industrial Field has graduated from Azerbaijan State oil and Industry University in environmental engineering
But as after graduation this University have participated in several internship training program in online Industrial Field regarding to the girl special technology the place where I have meet introduced by JIS and remote sensing was National Aviation Academy where I have continued my master’s degree in specialization Aerospace monitoring
Just a quick information about this University it’s only hiring education institutions that provide additional education program and in Azerbaijan in civil aviation and related uh airspace field today I am honored to say that I am continue at this University as a teacher in JIS and ecology and also from 2019 year I have
Started my PhD in remote sensing so in the next point which I would like note that is uh connecting to the society for me I had a chance to work voluntary at the international Society for photogrammetry and remote sensing this journey was fully I can’t say in distance during pandemic situation but
The spirit of this situation I had a opportunity to link with them several professional and student young progressional and professional worldwide in the field of care special technology remote sense photography and JIS and this is official representation of JS to ice periods and you you also can join to this community being an
Individual member just scanning this QR code sharing with within my slide and during this uh participation as a board of director and the ice periods student Consortium I have been involved in several projects like organization virtual room or webinar and also we had news later and also we had event
To to Geo mixer and it’s all open for young and student worldwide who can promote the scientific and professional development as today uh I am also I have main employment at space industry in Azerbaijan space agents other Cosmos and as other Cosmos who are committed to providing and creating uh
Space ecosystem in Azerbaijan will also providing reliable data to GIS data for sustainable development for achieving sustainable development goal benefit of working in the industry within the education I have opportunity for professional grow opportunity as well as making uh working in dependent land within teamwork at several project related also environment and several
Other fields where JIS has a very wide spread of application and also participation at International and National Congress and give information about a result of our research and participating in our program I am honored to say also that last year I was a joint project with National Aviation
Academy we had recently open airspace winter and Training Center and this is only one training center in Azerbaijan in Baku where we are providing training based on technically Advanced software and Hardware specifically software from SD and we’re also trying to increase the level of knowledge and expertise
In GIS field and last time we had our first training for a student from National Aviation Academy and I said we are using also training center for education and out of semester we had a great time of teaching I had a great time of teaching JS at this training
Center was within our team we have created startup so it was very successful we have a vision to develop campus master plan over the universe in Azerbaijan in this case study was at our Academy and we have used technology of satellite major and arcgis pro for this purpose
The next one is the international GIS day we had the official registered JS day in a website and last year we had also celebrated this GIS day at Aerospace monitoring training center and also thanks to the Joseph kersky here also congratulate us in our language with this
They this happy day professional day of the gis Prof Jas specialist and next one uh the main uh aspect what I can say about uh this journey in the care special field as a S3 technical certification and this certification validate expertise and using your JIS and mapping product and as a JIS
Trainer I understand that I should know the latest technology and a tool for GIS so last last year I have taken successfully exam and taken the gis fundamental certification you can scan this all search QR code to reading my success story and what I have learned from this
Examination that you should not give up never and keep believing in yourself and surround yourself with positive mind with friends and also with a supervisor winter find yourself a mentor at work today is participating at this uh Zoom meeting our panel discussion my colleagues who also supported during this way
Next one I should also say about the S3 young Professional Network like educational Network Community you may uh also take opportunity to grow by joining such as networking and develop your GIS skill at least I would like also uh so the gis related job as an environmental engineer I have started my
Education but today where apply GIS in several field and you may see that during within knowing JS technology remote sensing you may uh you may apply by using uh GIS in several Fields you you may be hydrologists or geologists or geophysics but you may use GIS in your research and your expertise
Regarding to the JS special analytic Market size you may see that this demand growing and uh sometimes this is already has been expanded and applications also widely using in several as software and services and content and total JS Market is also increasingly increased increasing during the time
So I placed uh what the main point what suggestion I can say within my short uh career Journey that you should as Joseph also said ask question find your mentor and believe yourself and working hard thank you so much and I would like leave you just a quote from Jack Daniels that
JS application only limited by imagination and you may apply GIS everywhere thank you you can also join Community by scanning this QR code thank you for your attention thank you so great perspectives and good presentation also and as you see everybody has a different story and and you can see how people
Learn skills Network and and volunteer and connect with others now I want to turn it over to najima about her perspectives and and GIS and emotions and career development for organizing this panel discussion uh my name is A specialist and uh senior teacher at kogi State Technical University in Kurdistan first of all about my education my uh first diplomas higher education is related to evaluation and management of property and land after that it um on 2018 I started to learn uh unijs distance learning which developed Salzburg University
And during this period we started the first in our country or I think in Central Asia we had cooperation and campus project with Patrick agrarian University Kazakh National al-farabi University Salzburg University and Hungarian University a collaboration we create to master a program and the first hour students finished cartography Entergy informatics in
۲۰۱۲ and you know during my old jazz some career I always try to to participate in some trainings and nowadays is very actual online courses and last two years I more pay attention to uh s reports um and uh my in my experience in the same time I also work in some projects
Which which is realized in the governmental level and education and in education level and in education level we are now we are working uh under um uh division uh project I will tell you a little bit later more detail and other project is um we are used Google Earth engine for
Analyzing agriculture fields which financed by uh And also forest service we develop Forest information system and electronic pedestal for one Community communities and it’s um and also we had a big project with which related to the pasture in our country and all these projects is related to GIS and remote sensing
And we have now a lot of platforms uh in governmental level and in education we are using and I try to explain um some of our platforms uh the uh first one is information portal of the Water Resource service this platform with this portal is managing um by GIS Department in Water Resource
Service the main goal of this portals to get directly information and visualization and analyzing uh parameters of waters some plate of channels capacity and Etc the next platform the next hour on project is a division division it is developing five learning models for mixed mod forms of education and we
Had developed uh five subjects five models digital Earth basic uh geospatial models and remote sensing and spatial analyze this project financed by appear a program of The Offspring development cooperation and our partners to Armenian University and one Salzburg University and our universities for uh this during this project we had
Workshops with Partners last year and one project meeting in year 11 and this month well in May uh before JS conference we had also one big Workshop where testing our sub our models the main for these models we are using more online online data and online platforms because nowadays it
Is very actual and um quickly and easy to understand and doing some exercise for for accessing for assessing own skills and knowledge and next our project this platform is green Heritage a green Heritage is a portal that provides information about Forest areas of Kurdistan which needs for planting seedlings of this area
Because in our governmental level uh our president last year announced about this program and all organization and angels and people started to planting new trees the next platform is early warning system for pasture users this system helped to show to faster users to moving to know about whether how to
How to go which road is better and climatic weather about degrees and others this system we create this collaboration with previous Hydromet which is official organization through climate and the last one our Austrian Central Asia GIS Essentia every year we organize this car conference this conference previous before Coronavirus twice be organized in alphabet Kazakh National universities once in China and this year our conference be organized in our country and in this website you can to learn more information about our JS conference and our plans about next year and all presidents uh which is presenting in our GIS conference
And also we have a big Chrome nsdi uh msdi portals in governmental level also nowadays A Ministry of emergency Forest Service water service and from cadastral organization or use GIS data and try to collect and integrate it and share this data between uh governmental Organization for using thank you for attention
All right thank you nijima it was great to see that the use story map for your presentation we see more often of these story map presentations and um yeah great perspectives and a lot of projects that you’re working on in Kyrgyzstan all right I’ll we’ll switch to our last
Speaker uh mansurus I have about his perspective mostly from the private sector industry now here we go thank you let me start sharing okay yeah and for the audience please write your questions in the chat box so we will start answering those yeah here we go so good things to everyone
Thank you for giving this chance to present and uh yeah let me introduce myself my name is Specialist and working uh 15 years in oil oil and gas Upstream industry and uh so I love some family cooking and GIF so that’s all and uh I have several Master degrees MBA and my background dedication is software engineering yeah and uh I will not go detailing through my career it’s quite boring for you I guess but the major detail is that every step in my career I had a challenge and um that was a kind of something that
Inspired me and my last assignment I started working 2019 in English Royal company that’s a joint venture to everyone with a local state company and we are developing one of the largest oil fields in the world thingy’s oil field yeah and the challenge that I faced was that the
Jazz technologist was not developed in the company and so my role was to start almost from scratch and that what inspired me actually and uh Another thing that inspired me here in English was that we had this agile transformation Yeah so we have uh agile transformation so and uh well so what is what what uh the agile would mean that’s completely uh different there so agile is kind of different mindset here and the first thing that we are developing our project uh we are using the kanban dashboard and uh right now
This mixture of agile and JS Technologies was really provide really great results and we have eight ongoing jet projects uh our JS team growth up to 18 JS specialists and um the beauty of that that uh 18 guys they don’t have to be in the office so we all
Working distantly from home some people traveling a lot and uh that’s what really kind of changed our mind that we simply kind of don’t care how much time people spending in the office there so the most important that the task that assigned was completed the time so
And uh our team provided a lot of flexibility in terms of organization our team is self-organized uh with assign people on different roads and another good thing in agile that we are developing our key shape so it means that we are not focused only jet specialist focused only on agile or not
We also work in some Specialists try themselves in business analysis there’s Bas uh some of them working as uh pollution architects and we always download and we allocate specific time like 1 6 of all our time we depend on education and uh so that’s all about agile and agile and GIS works perfectly
And uh also last year we moved to the Chevron Global platform Cloud platform portal and that provide us a lot of opportunities so we got access to the latest products in GIS world not only jet but also to it that opened a new possibilities for us of course that’s
The JS portal become much more scalable we now have a access to patio temporal Big Data store we store all our images in stock patio temporal storage a lot of opportunities to integrate with real-time data situational awareness map new real-time data also we we’re spending a lot of time now on
Machine learning yeah so that’s something new that we started last year so using the machine learning NGO special background knowledge provides a lot of opportunities and what I can say that our professional Jazz profession really kind of suffered from the digital transformation and nowadays we have to prove kind of to uh
The management that we are not I.T guys we are GIS so it’s different there we have Geographic background so with so much digitally transformed that we become kind of part of digital but we’re still not I.T yeah and uh that caused that the we will start having new profession to enjoy it
And that I think that what will be uh in Trend um uh next year of course it’s the jail developer yeah so it no it’s important to know not only the mapping but also some coding at least a basic coding opportunities uh some Notions and of
Course jail data science as I told the cloud Technologies and machine learning provide a lot of opportunities to study particular remote sensing yeah um Jazz pollution architect seem to have a lot of integration with different real-time Data Systems and other things that uh solution architecture is really important just to make your product
Sustainable um another thing that user interfaced ux UI designer that really you you need to do your products user friendly and it’s developed product it’s only half of the task here so second half is actually commissioning to make it usable and that’s where these guys step in they
Work a lot on design and such special it will be heavily required in the industry and uh yeah so everyone knows about drones particularly if you have a remote sensing background if you have additional knowledge of drones that provide that makes you really highly kind of search specialist there
So we’ve got drones nowadays used everywhere and we usually have drones for uh imagery acquisition you know pound of images every month and of course either why that analysis why there is kind of changing that a lot of data where the Jazz can benefit from digital Twins and that thing that oh
Link to wider yeah and uh just to uh at the end I would like to say that nowadays uh it’s not enough to be a specialist only in one area it’s important to have kind of second background in my case my second background is Emergency Management I’m a member of Chevron Global Emergency
Response Team common operating picture and that provides really kind of unique requirement yeah so and uh I inspire you to learn something new every time get to the some additional knowledges not only kind of GIS Focus but also uh pumps something else yeah yeah it can mix with almost every industry
Thank you that was great and seeing the new uh positions new jobs in GIS and geospatial Technologies and it’s not uh just mapping anymore it’s more like so it’s data science artificial intelligence it’s machine learning it is uh drones UAV light arm a lot more Technologies
Um we have about eight minutes left and I see some questions and I see the answers in the chat box but I just want to ask uh maybe Joseph about the the education like I know there are Master programs in the US in Europe and maybe Central Asia but there are also some
Certificate programs I know that I mean it’s a shorter term right so I don’t know if you can talk about that a bit uh certainly uh ever so briefly as I think the most of you know universities are are trying to reinvent themselves in many ways to be relevant
Into the next decade and part of that reinvention is hey maybe we have a growing community that is not interested in a traditional sort of Masters PhD degree so let’s offer certificate programs sometimes these are three courses sometimes they’re five courses sometimes there are seven courses but
They most of them are are shorter in duration than a traditional degree so that’s a I think a viable option and certainly our organization that Mehmet and I represent and others uh value people with those certificates some people have you know families they’ve got another job so they’ve got lots of
Reasons why a certificate is actually a viable option the second thing along those lines you reminded me to talk about ever so briefly there is an esri set of certification exams that you can get and again these are in terms of esri they’re very focused on our own software because that’s the only
Area that we felt like we were comfortable with uh deeming that you were blessed with uh achieving a certain uh amount of skills so there’s certifications from from esri in software uh coding there are some in intermediate GIS analysis there’s about 20 or so of these exams that you can get
And again not everybody values those not everybody has time to do those but some employers truly value those kinds of achievement measures so I thought I’d mention those and I’ll put that in the chat box as well thanks all right thank you that’s that’s great comment there so from my experience um
You gotta uh distinguish yourself from the others so whatever you take as education as a training or certificate or certification will help like one example is gisp certification it’s popular in the US in North America now they require an exam you gotta pass the test you’ve got to be qualified with
Your experience so instead of saying I’m a GIS user now you’re saying I’m a jazz specialist analyst so it’s one way of showing that but there are other ways uh your experience can say that I’m a jazz specialist too and uh let’s see any other questions uh I know okay I see
How you found Al Muhammad asks a question any creative ideas about building database for comprehensive system for vegetation indices processing um enough any of the panelists can answer that question uh maybe I can so uh sure go ahead yeah it um in terms of this Dynamic processing
Um the uh fm2 is very very good and it’s really agile too for unfy data processing so you you can try you can get kind of two months free trial for for me future manipulating engine you can try to use it yeah so it’s something that
Yeah this could help me a lot yeah that’s good thank you anyway any other questions yes go ahead we have somebody um yeah please go ahead if you have a question maybe it was not a question all right so let me ask you maybe from the questions I see for those
Um maybe changing careers from one career to another from engineering to JIS or science to GIS or maybe even from GIS to Business Development so what can we recommend for transition transitioning to different careers maybe I just started with my perspective quickly start learning those new skills
Um so if you already have expertise in one area you can start learning others like GIS geospatial lidar drones taking a course or two and then learning that and become make it your second career or second specialty will uh help so that’s what happened to me for my last 20 years
Switching from environmental science and engineering to GIS to Business Development and sales so I think starting slowly learning the skills and and learning from others help a lot I don’t know if anybody any of the panels have any um things to say okay well Mehmet I think your point
Echoes what I try to articulate at the very beginning with my own background and that is GIS is so useful in so many different fields that a person doesn’t have to feel pressured I don’t think to say I’m going to go into water and that’s going to be my complete career path
And I can’t change no no the on the contrary you can change and in my case not to bore you with my own story but in my own case I was I was a sort of a data developer uh you know working for big federal agencies and I didn’t get into
Education until you know Midway through my career and and that’s really been wonderful but but the point is you can change you can change your focus areas but no matter where you change GIS is always going to be valuable definitely and you don’t always have to
Be the specialist it could be the user power user and then use it for your profession so if you’re an engineer scientist even in business managers you can use GIS Geo spatial Technologies for your work so that’s good any any last minute questions all right I see
All right one question could you provide a typical career path for a forestry specialists um yeah I don’t know if any of the panelists can answer this GIS career path for forestry special so from my experience I know GIS has used heavily in forestry applications I think there’s
Some uh courses to take and and and and apply GIS in forestry so I think there’s a career path maybe we can check uh if any of you interested in joining us on our group LinkedIn group you can join and ask a question there too and you can
Also send us a LinkedIn connection request and we can continue the discussions there all right thank you all for joining our virtual event in hope to see you next time and have a great day thank you all see ya map on thank you thank you bye bye foreign
